History

History:

Founded in 1991 by Rick Miller, Neil Brown and Keron Miller, The Sled Dog Association of Scotland (SDAS) was the first Scottish body to create a calendar of events in Scotland to promote the pursuits of sled dogs and put Scotland on the sled dog event map

To this day SDAS still strive to fulfil what the founders set in place, which was to enjoy the sled dog sport, be sportsmanlike in all activities and basically have fun.

In the 2013/14 race season SDAS hosted the very first IFSS sanctioned World Cup event ever to be held in the UK and around the same time played a fundamental part in passing over its provisional membership held with the IFFS to the newly established British Sleddog Sport Federation (BSSF) who now currently represents GB as a fully established member of the IFSS

SDAS also gained membership to the World Sleddog Association in September 2013 and has been in attendance representing Scotland at their annual World Championship Races

Since it began SDAS have seen the successful introduction of a fair qualifying process for selection of ‘athletes’ to represent Scotland or the UK at IFSS / ESDRA / WSA World & European Championships and will continue to support, represent and aid its members in going forward within sled dog sports in the future
